FIRE crews from Ashburton and Newton Abbot responded to reports of a garage fire in Bovey Tracey last night (Saturday June 24).

On arrival at the scene in Chapple Road firefighters found smoke and flames issuing from the premises and got to work fighting the fire using four breathing apparatus and four hose reel jets plus a safety jet and lighting unit.

A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Crews spokesman said: “Crews at the scene requested the attendance of Western Power due to over head power cables, and the latter duly attended to isolate the power cables."

By just after 11.30pm crews confirmed the fire was out and was believed to be accidental. The premises was used for wood storage and 20% of the building was severely damaged by fire with the remainder being smoke damaged.
