THE 2020 Marie Curie 13 Tors Dartmoor Challenge was scheduled to take place on 11 October starting out in Widecombe in the Moor and ending there with a well deserved Devonshire Cream Tea for the 200 walkers who take part. It has been postponed due to Covid-19 and will next take place on October 10, 2021.
The Newton Abbot and District Marie Curie Fundraising Group have thought up their own version of the 13 Tors Challenge and are heading out over the wilds of Dartmoor to raise much needed funds for Marie Curie Nurses in Devon.
The seven members of the Group aren’t intrepid trekkers so will be breaking the 13 Tors into bite size chunks to suit their walking abilities. They will visit 13 Tors and walk a total distance of 14 miles but not in one go! They will start their walks on Friday, September 4, and continue on subsequent Fridays until all the Tors have been visited. Then in the true tradition of the 13 Tors Challenge will meet in Widecombe in the Moor for a socially distanced Devonshire Cream Tea on Sunday, October 11, the day the 13 Tors Challenge should have taken place.
With big dreams the group would love to be able to replace the £60,000 lost from the cancellation of the 2020 Challenge – with your help let’s see how close we can get!
