The weather, which had been unsettled earlier in the week, was extremely kind to the 77th Christow and District Show on Saturday. The entries were up by more than 50 on last year in the horticultural and craft tent, and were to a high standard. 'A continual schedule of events throughout the day in all three rings kept spectators' attention while providing a high-level of competition for entrants,' said Tony Clapham, publicity officer for the show. 'The activities of Elfic the Jester juggling on his unicycle enthralled both adults and children alike. The skill displayed by the members of the Moretonhampstead Trails Club manoeuvring their motorcycles over the most unusual obstacles was well worth watching and the precision flying by the Dawlish Red Barrows aerobatics team provided an amusing interlude for all.' Sports for children, big bale rolling and tug-of-war, as well as the sheaf pitching competition, allowed visitors the chance to burn up calories consumed at the barbecue and cream tea stands. The dog show and terrier racing attracted a good number of entries, and the display of classic cars was up on last year and all trade stands had a great level of interest. The show committee were thrilled that the event went so well and they are now busy erecting their own storage facility for all the show equipment, thanks to an Awards For All grant.
