NEIL Armstrong and his colleagues had to travel some 240,000 miles to get their hands on a piece of Moon rock 50 years ago this month. But Teignbridge residents needn’t go quite so far to get a close-up view of some, as there’s a lump of Moon rock on show on their door step in Bovey Tracey.
Admittedly it’s quite a small lump, just a few centimetres square – but it certainly hails from our heavenly neighbour, and it arrived here by natural means.
It forms the centre of a display at Bovey Tracey Heritage Centre which commemorates the Apollo 11 landing in July 1969, and was thrown out of the Moon’s surface following a meteorite strike millions – or even billions – of years ago.Read full story in tomorrow's paper.
