TRIBUTES have been paid to a pioneering ‘servant of Devon’s countryside’ – Ian Mercer – who has died at the age of 83.

Mr Mercer, who lived in Moretonhampstead for 40 years and was the first ever Dartmoor National Park officer, has been described as ‘an immense influence on a generation of nature lovers and national park enthusiasts’
