Hundreds lined the streets to see the Bovey Tracey 750th Charter Celebrations parade on Saturday.
Representatives from organisations in the town donned costumes through the ages to mark the day.
Renowned majorette group The Tracey Troopers, which disbanded around five years ago, also got back together for the event.
As the parade meandered through the town the church bells of St Peter, St Paul and St Thomas of Canterbury rang out a peal, specially composed for the charter event.
Later in the day numerous events and displays were arranged in Mill Marsh Park.
Crowds enjoyed maypole dancing, a samba band from Bovey Tracey Primary School, a performance by the Newton Bushel Morris Dancers, a demonstration by Bovey Tracey Fire Brigade and a drill display from the Sealed Knot Civil War Society.
There was also music courtesy of the Tiverton Town Band.
The Bova (Anglo Saxon for Bovey) embroidery was also unveiled as part of the celebrations.
Signatures from the town's people were gathered for the millennium and they have now been embroidered and sewn together to create a large design.
Cllr Dorreen Black, who was behind the project, unveiled it in the marquee on Saturday.
'There are lots of names on the embroidery who are well known in the town,' said Cllr Black.
At the Methodist Church Hall, the Heritage Society held an exhibition of maps, artefacts and photographs and youngsters had the chance to try out brass rubbing.
One of the main events was historian Brian Adams handing over tithe maps to the town, which he had created using old maps and a working plan.
'I was able to restore the dilapidated and worn maps which took many months to put together.'
Bovey Tracey mayor Cllr Avril Kerswell attended the Charter Day and numerous festivities leading up to it.
'We've had a wonderful turnout,' she said.
'Everyone has been smiling and enjoying themselves and the weather was kind to us.
'All in all it's been a week to remember. There hasn't been a dull moment.'
