WELL, hello Mr President, fancy meeting you here!
Two regular correspondents to our letters column ran into American actor Martin Sheen – who plays President Bartlett in The West Wing – while spending time on Brac Island, Dalmatia.
Ex-Newton Abbot resident Michael Stacey and his wife Marija, who now live in Melbourne, talked with the actor who was on the island of Supetar to unveil a statue of Mother Theresa.
Our pictures show Martin Sheen with Marija Stacey and the Staceys with the statue, sculpted by Petar Jaksic using local quarry stone which provided the material to build both the White House and the Sacre Coeur in Paris – possibly because it had a nice sheen to it?
The Staceys plan to be in South Devon in early July when Mr Stacey hopes to catch up with some old friends from Newton Abbot Grammar School in the 1950s.
