Five students from Stover School were selected to represent the South West Prep Schools in the National Prep Schools Athletics Finals at Alexander Stadium, Birmingham. They were Lydia Martin, 14, from Dawlish; Megan Higginson, 12, from Newton Abbot; Alice Blower, 12, from Liverton, Imogen Holmes, 12, from Tideford, Cornwall, and Harriet Sansom, 12, from Dainton. Against stiff competition, all the girls performed exceptionally well in their individual events, gaining personal bests. Alice performed outstandingly in the shot, to win the U13 National Shot title. Lydia put in a superb performance in the discus, finishing second in the U14 section, up against 20 other young hopefuls from around the country. Mrs Craven, head of PE at Stover, said: 'It is a real achievement for these students to be selected to represent the area at this event. 'To perform in a large stadium with crowds in the stands takes a lot of focus, composure and determination. 'Congratulations to Alice on a fantastic performance winning the shot, and to Lydia coming second in the discus,' she said. 'It is so exciting when they stand on the podium to receive their medals and all the crowds in the stands clap and cheer as the medal ceremony is held. In each of the the last three years Stover has returned from the finals with a prep schools national title holder in their ranks.
