CARAVANS have moved onto fields at Coach Road as Teignbridge District Council (TDC) says it is aware of the latest Newton Abbot encampment.

The council says it has visited the site and is following its legal process to remove the encampment.

Devon & Cornwall Police have also visited the site, the Mid-Devon Advertiser can confirm.

So far this year, there have been several encampments in and around Newton Abbot, namely at Osbourne Park, which has seen four.

Baker’s Park, Sandringham Park, Forches Cross and Mill Marsh Park in Bovey Tracey have also seen unauthorised encampments.

This year’s developments have prompted TDC to launch a new ‘target hardening’ strategy to deal with unwanted traveller camps on its land.

Its traveller strategy is due to be debated on Tuesday, July 29.
