AN application to covert a disused Teignmouth building into a CrossFit gym has been approved by planners.
25/00796/FUL comprised a change of use of the former SeaSports Southwest building, which is adjacent to New Quay Street, to Class E, allowing for it to be used as a gym.
And Teignbridge District Council (TDC) have granted planning permission, the authority stipulating work begin within three years and that it not open on Sundays or Bank Holidays.
According to the planning statement for 25/00796/FUL, the gym will operate as an affiliate of CrossFit, offering classes, training and nutrition advice.
It will be the first CrossFit-affiliated gym in Teignbridge.
The gym will occupy the whole ground floor of the building, with a range of gym machines and equipment provided for users.
The existing changing facilities on the first floor will be retained, the planning statement says.
The first floor is proposed to be used as an ancillary space for the gym, for stretching before and after classes, storage of belongings and so on.
The applicants have a strong community focus and would actively support local community groups by providing occasional and ‘one-off’ use of the first floor when it is not required by the gym, the Mid-Devon Advertiser understands.
