Ashburton's mayor has said it is 'disappointing' that political leaders talk to the media about transferring assets without involving the town council.MP Mel Stride and the leader of Teignbridge Council, Cllr Jeremy Christophers, said in a press release that the running of the swimming pool and Kingsbridge Lane car park could become the town's responsibility. Both felt Ashburton should have more control over its fate.Mr Stride said: 'I know that the town has been reviewing parking provision and it will be for the town council to take some of the key decisions on this issue. What I want to do is to press Teignbridge to be as generous as possible in its possible offer to transfer key assets such as the town centre car park to the town.'<
