Valentine's Day is always special – particularly for Marjorie Osborne.

For the woman known to all as Aunt Marj celebrated her 100th birthday on Friday with family, friends and staff at Teignmouth Hospital.

Born on January 14, 1903, to Alice and Howard Walford, of Bristol, Marjorie was one of five children, the others Gladys, Florence, Doris and Leonard (who died in childhood).

She married William on April 5, l933, and was widowed in l974. They had no children.

But Marjorie was fond of her nieces Joyce, Jennifer and Ruth and nephew Timothy, and helped to bring up great nieces and nephews Kenvyn, Jayne, Joanne and Aiden. She is also close to great nephews Richard, Cary and Ashley.

Marjorie was a member of the Bristol Women's Society, and an active member of the Conservative Party.

She attended Redmaids School, Bristol, and cared for others all her life.

In l977, she reached a milestone – it was the year she took her first trip on an aircraft. She flew from Heathrow to New York and then to Atlanta, returning a month later.

She loved her pet cat Kia and dog Sky, and indeed all animals.

Marjorie is a keen knitter, and enjoys cooking and making preserves and cakes was a habit. Though now diabetic, she enjoys chocolate, sweets and biscuits.
