MORE than 1,600 spring bulbs have been planted in the Manor House grounds to kick start Dawlish In Bloom.
Spearheaded by Cllr Mary Lowther, the planting programme saw a group of volunteers spend hours putting the mix of crocuses and dwarf daffodils in the circle of grass in front of the Manor.
About a dozen people, as well as several children, took part in the effort.
About 1,500 bulbs are left which, Cllr Lowther explained will be planted around the base of trees along Exeter Road and around The Lawn.
She said: 'I was really pleased with how it all went. The rain actually helped us toward the end of the week as it has softened the ground which made planting much easier.
'Several people came up to us while we were working and asked what we were doing and a few people actually gave us money to contribute.
'We have also had other donations from individuals and groups such as Dare.'
Cllr Lowther hopes residents will join in the spirit of Dawlish In Bloom by putting up hanging baskets and planters in front gardens.
