SCHOOL leavers from Dawlish Community College have been recognised for their achievements at a special presentation evening.

The Year 11 students completed their studies at the college in the summer, celebrating record GCSE results.

Guest speaker at the event was Bruce Henderson, business development manager at Exeter City FC.

He told the students, parents, staff and visitors that education was important and played a major role in shaping the future for young people.

Mr Henderson, who has been working with business studies students at the college, talked about how Exeter City helped support young players in their education as well as their playing careers.

He congratulated the Year 11 leavers and wished them the best for the future.

More than 60 awards were presented.

Special recognition went to Beth Porch, who was presented with the Helen Foundation Award by Helen's parents, Roger and Annie Kirk.

The foundation was formed after actress Helen's death in 2005 to support budding young artists and performers in Teignbridge.

The Mayor's award was presented to Lauren Welsh by the mayor and mayoress of Dawlish, Cllrs John and Linda Petherick.

The Evelyn Connett Shield for modern languages was presented to Kellie-Ann Bond by Cllr Alan Connett (left).

An award in memory of two former students who died – Richard Cridge and Kathryn Dunn – which was donated by chairman of governors Kathleen Whaling, was presented to Rowan Ford by Richard and Kathryn's families.
