Today (MARCH 24) Devon County Council Highways revealed that ‘Due to a delay in the safety audit procedure required before this road can be re-opened, this closure will remain in place for an additional two weeks.’ The main road was sealed off at the beginning of the year so that contractors could instal a new rising main, re-build a culvert under the road and realign the carriageway at Bradley Bends where developer Bovis Homes is building 185 homes, 20 self-build and employment units, now known as Williams Gate. It caused a furore among traders and residents affected by the closure and along with the town council they were furious because of the lack of consultation and accused the county council and Bovis of ignoring their protests. Now they are faced with another fortnight’s misery. This week on the Bovis Homes website it stated that the road would open on Easter Sunday at 5.30pm. On hearing the news, Bovey Tracey Town Council clerk, Mark Wells said it was extremely disappointing. ‘We were all working towards the end of what was already a considerably long closure and this just exasperates the situation to those businesses and members of the community that are affected,’ said Mr Wells.
