POLICE are urging members of the public to be wary of door-to-door salespeople.
The warning comes after numerous reports of two men calling at homes in Newton Abbot trying to sell items.
Officers have identified the individuals and spoken to them about their activities.
However, residents are being advised to ‘exercise caution’ when answering the door to unexpected callers.
A police spokesman said: ‘Do not feel obliged to buy items at the door and do not allow anyone into your home, if you feel pressured just close the door.
‘If someone at the door tries to gain entry and refuses to leave, call the police on 999.’
Anyone who feels they have been conned or bought overpriced items from ‘rogue traders’ can call Trading Standards consumer advice helpline on 03454 04506.
