Elizabeth 'Bet' Lawrenson received a special visit from youngsters at Denbury Primary School when she celebrated her 105th birthday on Thursday.

The children sang Happy Birthday to Mrs Lawrenson, who lives at Bramble Down Nursing Home, Denbury.

She was also visited by her daughter Jean and her granddaughter.

On her memorable day, the postman delivered Mrs Lawrenson's second telegram from the Queen.

Bet who was born in 1903 recalled Christmas memories as a young girl.

She says that she remembers it being very different from today.

'It was a family orientated time and we would go to many church services leading up to and on Christmas Day,' she said.

'We were given practical presents like a cardigan, never a toy.

'I remember having a stocking with an orange and nuts in and we always used to make coloured paper chains to decorate the house.

'Members of our family would visit for tea on Christmas afternoon and the tradesmen would call on Boxing Day for a tip.'
