Nerves began to show when five minutes before the entry cut off time, only two exhibits had been registered for The Ashburton and District Garden Association Summer Show on Saturday.

But despite the show secretary's worry, by the time the show started in Ashburton Town Hall, there was a good turn out.

'The very sad and disappointing summer had held the exhibitors back from making decisions as to whether to enter their produce and flowers or not,' said Judi Stafford, show secretary.

'Happily they did and we ended up with a fabulous display of flowers, plants and vegetables.'
