A TINY slice of glorious Teignbridge will be featured in a garden festival at one of the UK’s top historic sites next week.

The Bickington-based Husbandry School, just outside Ashburton, will be exhibiting at the Royal Horticultural Show’s Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival all next week (July 1-7).

Its team has created a community allotment for public scrutiny by the thousands expected to visit the show.

One of the creators explained: ‘It is a snapshot of The Husbandry School gardens - a place of rest, reflection and learning for all, also growing produce which showcases companion planting of edibles and ornamentals. The plot features green woodworking and willow work by the school’s tutors too.’

The school supplies local businesses and many top London chefs with unusual varieties of vegetables, herbs and salad for their kitchens, a link which led the team to be invited to take part in the show.

Carole Williams, co-founder of The Husbandry School: ‘Our re-engage and re-inspire programme for young people from 5-19 years has gone from strength to strength.

‘It is so rewarding to see what has been created here being used as such a positive force in young people’s lives.

‘Now we can take our garden design to London to illustrate the environmental benefit of gardens to communities in need.’

The Husbandry School has a Summer Celebration Day on July 27.
