CHUDLEIGH and District Amenity Society has applied to English Heritage for the war memorial in Conduit Square to become a listed monument.
It follows a discussion with Teignbridge Council conservation officer, Maureen Pearce, when the society enquired about the possibility of the town's ancient pot water system, dating back to Bishop Lacey commissioning a supply of clean water for the Chudleigh inhabitants in 1430, being listed.
Ms Pearce informed society chairman Doug Hellier-Laing that English Heritage had a project to list those memorials not already listed and asking if the society would like to undertake the necessary work.
