OTHER than when Covid lockdown prevented such events, chairmen of Bishopsteignton Probus Club have laid a Probus wreath at the Bishopsteignton War Memorial annually.

On Remembrance Sunday this year, Probus Club members including chairman Peter Hartley attended the Act of Remembrance alongside representatives of other village organisations and individuals to remember the service and sacrifice of those who have died in wars.

Villagers assembled adjacent to the Bishopsteignton War Museum, where the Act of Remembrance took place.

It was led by the Rev Jane Frost who recited The Exhortation, and a short, personalised service which was very well-received by the assembled villagers.

The Last Post was sounded before the Two Minute Silence which was concluded when the Reville was sounded.

Wreaths were then laid on the War Memorial by Probus chairman Peter Hartley and others before the Parade was led to St John’s Church for the Service.

Bishopsteignton Probus Club has a fortnightly programme of excellent speakers, including ‘Brewing and Distilling’ on Tuesday, December 7, special lunches including our forthcoming Christmas Lunch on Tueday, December 14, at the Old Walls Vineyard, and visits which before Covid lockdown included a helicopter museum, Britannia Royal Naval College and Sidmouth planetarium.

This welcoming club is for retired men and those nearing retirement who live in Bishopsteignton and surrounds, including Teignmouth, Dawlish, and Newton Abbot.
