The Teign estuary will be teeming with rowing boats on Sunday July 20 as crews prepare to depart for the Round the Islands Race.

Although the course start at 10.30am is out at sea off Ness beach, crews will be launching from Gales Hill and Shaldon beach.

The River Teign Rowing Club, which organises the event, has warned that there will be increased traffic as teams launch and retrieve their boats.

More than 30 boats have registered for the race, which will see rowers cover a distance of around 11 nautical miles, equivalent to 20.5km, as they travel around Orestone, Thatcher Rock and Leadstone.

Boats registered include single, double and quad coastal sculls, Cornish pilot gigs and Seine boats.
