THE father of a three-year-old from Kenn suffering from a rare and aggressive form of childhood cancer is today flying out to America for a consultation with top cancer specialists. Kevin Wright will fly to New York where he will attend the Memorial Sloane Kettering Cancer Centre to discuss his son, Bobby. Bobby's family have been trying to raise £220,000 to send him for radical treatment available the States, but not in the UK. So far they have raised nearly £100,000. He will be staying at the concert pianist Byron Jannice's apartment – something that was organised through celebrity spoon bender Uri Gellar, after he heard of Bobby's plight through local media. Richard Branson paid for the flights. Mr Wright will be bringing all of Bobby's medical records, tumour blocks and aims to discuss the logistics of Bobby's treatment, which will hopefully start at the end of the summer when the funds have been raised. Mr Wright said: 'I'm hoping to go over there and come back with an admission date, but also while I'm there I'm going to the St Jude's Children's Hospice at Memphis, where they are starting a phase one trial of a new antibody therapy.' Mr Wright continued: 'For the past eight months all its been about is collecting money and I'm elated that things are now starting to move along. The sooner we can get treatment for Bobby the better. I can't wait to go.' Mr Wright said that the support received from the people of Dawlish and the surrounding area had been fantastic.
