A HUSBAND and wife team from Bovey Tracey have won a bronze medal each in the world lifesaving championships in Australia.

Ecstatic Sue and Ian Hutchings, fresh from their accolade in Adelaide, said: 'Third in the world can't be bad for a small place like Bovey Tracey.'

Now they have set their sights on repeating or even bettering the achievement in the next Rescue world championships in Montpellier, France, in 2014.

Mrs Hutchings, a sports coach at Bovey Tracey Primary School, won her gong in the time-sensitive speed line throw event where she had to coil in a rope, throw it to a casualty and pull them to safety. Gold and silver went to Australian rivals.
