Five members of staff working at Naz Indian Cuisine, Somerset Place, Teignmouth, have been found to be illegal workers by the UK Border Agency.
and a Bovey Tracey restaurant owner could be facing fines of up to £20,000 after two illegal workers were arrested by immigration officers.
A spokesman for the Teignmouth restaurant said that three of the people were merely visiting the premises, and the other two were students working there part time.
'The students had visas to be in this country, and were allowed to work 20 hours a week.
'But unknown to us, they were not attending their college, which made them illegal as far as the immigration authorities are concerned.
'We would certainly not employ anybody we knew to be illegal.'
All five involved were from Bangladesh.
Staff from the UK Border Agency went to the Spice Bazaar, Fore Street, Bovey Traceyon November 9, and found two Bangladeshi men who had entered the country without permission.
Unless owner Shahar Lashkor can provide evidence that the correct checks were made, such as seeing a passport or Home Office document, he could be fined £10,000 for each offence.
