NEWTON Abbot has its first woman portreeve after an annual ceremony in the town library.

Janet Parrot was duly installed as the port warden at the Law Day sitting of the Newton Abbot Borough Town Court Leet and Court Baron.

Ms Parrot, the group's former 'borough bailiff,' is looking forward to her year in the revived historic office.
