The All Whites were expected to see off Walcott Old Boys comfortably and, in the end, they lived up to this expectation, but it was not until the second half that the home side found their rhythm.

Coach Phil Burford bemoaned an error strewn first half that kept the visitors in it. In fact it was the Old Boys who led for most of the period.

The All Whites took the lead through a Rich Hewitt penalty, but it wasn't long before the visitors got on the scoresheet through a soft try from fly half Vaughan. It came from a Walcott scrum at which the normally solid All Whites' pack wheeled and Vaughan took advantage and converted his own try to make the score 7-3 to Walcott.

The All Whites coughed and spluttered their way through the rest of the half, eventually managing to move through the gears, with Paul Warren getting on the scoresheet with a well-worked try, converted by Hewitt to make the score 10-7.

Right on half-time, a poor drop-out by the visitors saw the All Whites cut loose with Birkett popping up to make the score 15-7 at the break.

The coaches went to work at half-time and it was a different All Whites' side that came out for the second 40 minutes.

A tactical change saw Damian Chambers come on at number eight, with Ian Milton moving up to lock as Paul Warren took a break from the action.

Soon after the restart, the All Whites were awarded a kickable penalty, and Hewitt stepped up to take the three points to make the score 18-7.

From this point on it was all one-way traffic. A brace of tries for winger Mike Saxton, one of which was converted by Hewitt, moved the score along to 30-7, with Walcott looking ragged.

Nick Holt got on the scoresheet next with a well-worked try, with Hewitt converting.

Hewitt added a penalty minutes later to make it 40-7.

With the home crowd now happy, the All Whites added further tries through Jan Viskoper and Jason Keenan, with Hewitt rounding off a good day with the boot by converting one, then adding a penalty to finish the rout.

Burford singled out captain Simon Mabin and winger Saxton for special praise, but his man of the match award went to Alex Moore, who ball-carried consistently throughout the game and was a constant thorn in Walcott's side.

The All Whites are in action tomorrow in the Intermediate Cup, away at high-flying Clifton, kick-off 2.30pm.
