A BRAIN session to encourage people to dig deep into Dartmoor’s rich history will be held in Ilsington next month.
The Heritage Lottery-funded Moor than Meets the Eye group is hosting a special open day at the village hall on March 12 to share bright ideas about developing parish projects.
The session starts at 9.30am, includes a light buffet lunch, and extends well into the afternoon.
Numerous communities across the national park have been getting together in the last year to explore their past with prompting from Moor than Meets the Eye and its £1.9 million Landscape Partnership initiative.
The five-year enterprise, now in its second year, provides eligible Dartmoor parishes with a grant of up to £10,000 to allow them to ‘celebrate, record and conserve’ important features in the local landscape.
Projects so far include conserving an historic map, working with schoolchildren to explore where they live, engraving a parish boundary stone and supporting an archaeological study.
More information about the scheme and related projects is available from Andy Bailey, community officer for Moor than Meets the Eye on 01822 890903.
