Angie Brown, of Brimley Women’s Institute, writes: Our president welcomed 35 members to our annual meeting, including two new members joining that evening. Thelma Naughton and Linda Jackson stood down and the committee was re-elected along with three new members, Anna Raine Wells, Chris Towle and Carol Chapman.

Jackie Juno, a multi-talented stand-up poet, singer and artist entertained us with her hilarious poetry and humour. She is the Grand Bard of Exeter and has been for seven years. Jackie brought along to show us the beautiful Bard cloak she had made herself decorated with swan feathers. Jill gave the vote of thanks.

The resolutions were voted on with alleviating loneliness receiving 25 and keeping microplastic fibres out of our oceans receiving 28 votes.

We will be holding a stall at the Green Man event in Bovey Tracey tomorrow which opens at 10am. There will be lots of crafts, homemade cakes, jams, chutneys, marmalades and some plants on sale.

On the evening of Friday, May 5, there will be a circular walk around part of the Heritage Trail at the back of Stover School and on Saturday, May 13, there will be a Challacombe Down walk with a halfway stop at the Warren House Inn.

The next meeting is on Wednesday, May 17, when we will be having a plant sale and our speaker will be Johanna who will be talking about flowers and butterflies at Slapton Ley.
