A MILITARY bugler from Teignmouth is in demand all over the country at this time of the year.

Dave Holman, who is travelling to various venues to play at remembrance services, said: 'I could be booked 20 times over – people love to hear a live bugle rather than a recording, but there are not so many of us around now.'

A Warrant Officer Second Class reservist with the Wessex Brigade, he was at the Westminster Garden of Remembrance yesterday to play at a Royal Sussex Regiment ceremony.

On Sunday, he will return to his home town of Burgess Hill, where he has been playing the Last Post since the age of ten.

In the evening he rushes back to Shaldon to play at St Peter's, and on Tuesday he will be at Teignmouth Triangle on the 11th day of the 11th month, when a new flag will be raised.

WO2 Holman said: 'I love the bugle and have been practising virtually every day for the last two months for the ceremonies because I want to be note perfect.

'So as to not upset the neighbours, I usually practice somewhere remote, such as Haldon, near the golf course.

'One day recently, when it was misty, it must have been a bit spooky for anybody hearing the Last Post coming out of the mist.

'The rest of the year I am in great demand at other events, such as regimental dinners, funerals and weddings.

'There are so many requests and I do what I can.'

WO2 Holman's regular job is with BT at Exeter, and he has been out and about selling poppies as well in Teignmouth (left).
