PUMPKIN mania has hit Teignbridge with traders reporting healthy pre-Hallowe'en sales.

As the trick or treat door-knockers prepare for tonight's ramblings around the houses, greengrocers have been congratulating themselves on a bumper year for the big orange fruit.

Scott's, in Newton Abbot town centre, was typical of those celebrating perfect pumpkin profits.

Sales assistant Nicholas Bellamy said they had sold out of their smaller pumpkins, with 30 of them disappearing off the shelves in just a few days.

'We've done better than last year,' he cooed.

Meanwhile, those who don't care for witch-like pranksters knocking on their door tonight are being encouraged to display a special poster.

Teignbridge Council has linked up with police to help make Halloween an enjoyable and safe time for everyone by supporting the constabulary's No Trick or Treat poster campaign.
