A TRIP to Newton Abbot’s markets turned into a Christmas surprise for one lucky Teignbridge resident.

Roger Lloyd, from Kingskerswell, was drawn as the winner of a £100 Christmas hamper packed full of festive goodies supplied by Bakers the Butcher, The Market Deli and Home Bake from Newton Abbot’s Indoor Market.

Earlier this year Teignbridge Council, responsible for running Newton Abbot’s range of indoor and outdoor markets, completed the landmark acquisition of the town’s Market Walk shopping centre.

It is the largest investment in Teignbridge’s history, and has extended the council’s portfolio of assets to give the authority the ability to influence the future development of Newton Abbot’s central shopping district.

The council’s markets manager for Newton Abbot, Mike Walsh, said: ‘Congratulations to Mr Lloyd. I am sure he will enjoy the delicious range of produce from our top quality butchers, deli and home bake cakes.

‘I would like to take this opportunity on behalf of all the traders in the market to wish all our customers a merry Christmas and a fantastic new year.’

Mr Lloyd said: ‘It was a lovely surprise when I received the call to say I had won. I’m a regular visitor to the market and shop there weekly as I like supporting local businesses and enjoy the local scene that goes with it.’
