FUNERAL director Fred Christophers has issued a ‘wholehearted’ public apology for the ‘unacceptable treatment’ of a former member of staff.

Receptionist Roz Perrin, 65, was unfairly dismissed by the Newton Abbot and Ashburton-based company last year.

She revealed last week that she had finally received the £30,000 compensation the undertakers had been ordered to pay her after a tribunal ruled she had been discriminated against on age and gender.

Mr Christophers said of the unfair dismissal case: ‘I can’t make amends for the outrage surrounding the unacceptable treatment of a member of my staff, but what I hope to do is openly apologise on behalf of the entire company…’
