A TEIGNBRIDGE councillor has called for the introduction of bicycle stands in Dawlish. Cllr Ted Hockin, also a town councillor and keen cyclist, thinks that in recent years there has been a huge increase in the number of people using bikes in the area. 'We promote and advocate this very healthy and green form of transportation,' he said. 'There are cycle lanes but no cycle stands or designated area where they can be left securely. 'I enjoy riding my bike, but leaving it in the town does worry me, and leaning it against shop windows is not appreciated, understandably, by the shop owners.' Cllr Hockin added that there were many places around the town where stands could be provided, and he could not see the cost being high. He has contacted the county council regarding the matter. Currently, the government is trying to encourage schoolchildren to use bicycles in an effort to stop the 'school run'.
