SCOUTS and Guides in Teignbridge attended the annual Peacelight Service in St Mary's Church, Abbotsbury, Newton Abbot, last month.

The event celebrated the arrival of a lantern holding the 'peacelight' flame which had been transported from Jerusalem by various members of the Scout Associations, being received by numerous Scout and Guide Groups on the way, mainly through Europe.

At the service, which was led by the Rev Michael Thayer and attended by the mayor of Newton Abbot, Cllr Carol Bunday, Scouts and Guides took their own lanterns and candles to be lit from the peacelight lantern to take them back to their own Groups. During this ceremony members of the Bovey Tracey Group Hand Bell Team provided accompaniment.

After the event the peacelight continued on its way to America for similar celebrations there.

A retiring collection realised £62.68 in aid of the Childrens' Hospice South West.
