POLICE are reminding the public to be wary of a man carrying out a cash scam in Kingsteignton and Newton Abbot.

Incidents have been reported of a man in his 20s approaching people in the street and asking for them for change.

He then claims he needs to return to his home to retrieve the extra cash to repay them, having already taken a larger note out of the possession of the unsuspecting victim.

Officers say the dark-haired man then lets the victim follow him back to his ‘home’ which turns out to be a vacant property.

But he says he needs to go around the back to get inside and will be back soon.

However, he never returns and the victim is left without the money they originally gave him.

Reports have come in to police from Kingsteignton and Newton Abbot where the culprit is said to have been operating.

The repeat offence follows the same basic method with small variations.

The man is described as in his late teens, early 20s with dark hair and blue eyes.

He is of slight build and approximately 5ft 7ins tall.
