A £10,000 donation by Newton Abbot Hospital League of Friends will help people who are experiencing speech difficulties.
The cash has bought some high-tech equipment designed to assist those who have suffered strokes or other conditions that can make communicating difficult.
The kit includes a voice amplifier, personal digital assistant, portable tablet personal computer and a combined keyboard, screen and microphone that 'speaks' typed messages.
Speech therapist Caroline Ayres said: 'Losing some or all of your speech can obviously have a huge impact on the quality of life.
