The chairman of Shaldon parish council has quit the post.

Maia Miller announced her resignation after 18 months on the council, six of which she served as chairman, due to new business commitments.

But her departure – she has also stepped down as a parish councillor – follows several years of internal wrangling, in-fighting and other resignations.

And in her resignation letter, which she read at Tuesday night's specially- convened meeting, she also took a swipe at fellow parish councillor Chris Clarance, who in other hats is a county councillor and chairman of Teignbridge Council.

She said: 'I would love to begin my round of thanks with Cllr Clarance but cannot do this with honesty.'
