PONIES are a common sight on Dartmoor and are a popular attraction for visitors and holidaymakers.
However, they have a long past of which most people are unaware.
These hard-working animals played an important role in the running of the famous Dartmoor granite tramway, and there’s an opportunity to discover more about this when Dartmoor historian Paul Rendell hosts an afternoon which will explain the work of the Dartmoor Pony Heritage Trust.
It takes place at the national park headquarters at Parke, Bovey Tracey, on Monday [August 8] at 1.30pm.
After a short talk from Paul there will then be a chance to get up close with the friendly ponies, to groom them and, weather permitting, take them around the estate.
