Animals in Distress has had to close the Bovey Tracey branch of its charity shop chain.
Neil Thomas, Chief Executive of Animals in Distress, said: ‘We are sorry to be leaving Bovey Tracey, where we have loved being a part of the friendly high street.
‘We would like to thank the local community for their amazing support over the many years that we have been trading in the town.
‘We would like to say a big thank you to our wonderful volunteers for all their hard work and dedication to the shop over the years.’
The shop ceased trading on May 17.
A spokeswoman for the charity said it was no longer profitable so they had to make the decision not to renew the lease.
She said: ‘As a charity whose care for animals is always our primary concern, we are constantly striving to ensure that every aspect of our organisation runs efficiently so that the maximum amount of funds raised can go to the care of the animals.
‘With this in mind we made the difficult decision to close the shop which, despite the dedication and hard work of our amazing volunteers, was no longer profitable. We therefore decided not to renew our lease on the premises.
‘Anyone who wishes to donate goods and to shop can still do so at our nearest shop, which is in Newton Abbot.’
