LOCAL Cancer Research UK volunteers joined staff at Newton Abbot’s Tesco superstore at the end of last month by helping to turn the store pink and raise funds to help beat cancer.

Enthusiastic Tesco staff dressed in pink and collection buckets were rattled to collect spare change from generous shoppers during the three day period.

The event, which took place from April 23 to 25, was the first public fundraiser the store has been able to do since pandemic restrictions were introduced.

Janette Parker, Tesco Community Champion at the store, was one of the staff with collection buckets during the three days.

‘Our three-day Tesco Turns Pink event proved a fantastic way for colleagues and customers to support Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life,’ she said.

‘Unfortunately, most of us know someone who’s been affected by cancer, so colleagues are aways keen to raise as much money as we can to aid research into finding a cure.

Tesco has partnered with Cancer Research UK for 20 years, raising funds to support research that fights 200 types of cancer.

Janette added: “We are always very grateful for the support of our generous customers,’ added Janette.

‘By donating whatever they can spare, we can all help to make a real difference to people with cancer, right now.’
