YOUNGSTERS from Belarus have enjoyed a holiday in south Devon thanks to the Teignbridge and Torbay Link of Chernobyl Children’s Lifeline.
A group of 10 children were hosted by local volunteer families and visited various attractions and outdoor activities during their trip.
A spokesman for the south Devon group of the charity said: ‘The party was hosted by volunteer families who did wonderful work in caring and providing for all of them.
‘The Link is immensely grateful to everyone who played a part in making this a very successful visit and in sending home 10 very happy and healthy children.’
Belarus bore the brunt of the radioactive fallout from the Chernobyl nuclear explosion 30 years ago and children born years later still go on to develop various cancers including thyroid, bone and leukaemia.
The Lifeline charity provides holidays for youngsters in an uncontaminated environment, giving them a chance to enjoy a trip abroad while at the same time giving an opportunity to build up their immune system.
