Plans for a controversial service station complex at Drumbridges looks set to be scrapped.
Fresh proposals, just days from being launched, could see a relocated Newton Abbot livestock market, business units, homes, pub and a church in its place.
The change of heart by developer Arnold White Estates comes about after insufficient investors were attracted to its A38 scheme.
The project had raised concerns among residents, councillors and Trago boss Bruce Robertson about the impact of additional traffic using the busy junction.
Planning permission was granted on appeal three years ago but construction never started.
Now, AWE chief executive Bob Williams has said, following talks with Teignbridge Council, the NFU and a religious group, that he expected to submit a 'less contentious' application within a fortnight.
