THE third annual civic awards event and a guest speaker are on the agenda for tomorrow’s meeting of the Newton Abbot and District Civic Society.
Guest speaker is Sally Henley, Newton Abbot’s town development manager, who will be talking about her job, its responsibilities, and its challenges.
A spokesman for the society said: ‘Sally has been in this role since the end of 2008 and in this time has seen many changes and developments.
‘If you’ve ever wondered what her work entails, this is the ideal chance to find out. Everyone is welcome so please join us for what promises to be an interesting and informative talk.’
The meeting will also discuss the society’s annual civic award event to be held in June. The public will be invited to nominate an individual, charity or a company for the award recognising their contribution to civic life in Newton Abbot and the surrounding districts.
Keith Stokes-Smith, acting chairman, said: ‘This will be the third year running we have run this award and we’re looking forward to receiving lots of nominations.
‘There are dozens of people out there who deserve to be recognised for what they do for the area and community in a voluntary capacity.
‘The nomination process will commence early in April through our website.’
Following the meeting, the society will meet with the Royal British Legion to plan a collaborative first world war Battle of Jutland display later this year in the town.
The society is meeting at 10.30am in the function room of the Royal British Legion premises, Newton Abbot.
