Sue and Julian Spence write:
My son went to the Ashburton carnival on Friday evening with his girlfriend and her nine-year-old daughter.
He bought a ticket for 20p and put it in the car.
When he returned to his car the clampers were just putting on a clamp,
When he asked what they were doing, they said clamping him as he did not have ticket.
While he went to get the ticket from the car, they put on the clamp.
They would not release it because they said the ticket was upside down in the car and they could not see it.
My son called us and my husband and i went out to see what was going on.
There were no lights on in the car park and when we were shown a sign about clampers. There is no way anyone could see it in the dark. One of the clampers was getting aggressive and was using really bad language.
Several people were clamped on this night including one lady with two children under five.
She was in tears as she had no way of paying and no phone to call anyone for help.
We called the police due to this aggressiveness. When they came they said there was nothing they could do.
