Newton Abbot Flower Club celebrated 50 years at their monthly meeting on Monday, September 27.
Firstly they held their annual meeting which re-elected the chairman, president and committee members with the addition of two new committee members.
Margaret Ireland was presented with a bouquet of flowers and an honorary membership, as she attended the very first meeting on September 27, 1970. President Marion Farley was also presented with flowers and cut the delicious cake, beautifully made and decorated by Helen Griffith, to celebrate 50 years. All members enjoyed a slice before the flower demonstration began.
Marion was made an honorary member after attending meetings for 42 years.
After we’d had the cake, we then watched member Sue Hodges do a demonstration on the theme ‘Lockdown Leftovers’
Whilst in lockdown Sue had been busy downsizing some of her floristry items at home. She also went out daily for a walk and collected fallen twigs and small pieces of branches.
So Sue could take us on a seasonal journey with home and nature’s ‘leftovers’.
To close the meeting a raffle was held when members had the opportunity to take home these stunning arrangements.
Our next meeting will be held on Monday, October 25, with a demonstration by Sally Taylor. Come and join us.
