A cross-section of the Mid-Devon Cycling Club/Colin Lewis Cycles gathered at the Hoburne Holiday Park for their end of year celebration dinner and prize presentation.

The chairman gave a summary of the year's achievements. They included the outstanding riding of Jonathan Tiernan-Locke, who had 12 wins and many placings.

His season was cut short when he suffered a broken collar bone. All of Locke's riding was aggressive and attacking. It had earned him a place in the Plowman/Craven/Madison Team for 2009. He was supported in the Independence Tour of Crete by Andrew Hitchens, Adam Holmes and Peter Vincent and together they took the team prize.

Peter Vincent shone in the short distance time trials, winning a number of races around the UK. He set new club records at ten miles on two ocassions. Initially the record was lowered to 19 minutes 42 seconds. Later he cut it to 19 minutes 26 seconds.

For the 36th year, the club had gone to Normandy and raced in the Prix du Jumelage promoted by the Velo Club du Bocage.

As always the club promoted events of the highest standard. Top of the list had to be the Dartmoor Classic Sportif. This had been blessed with a brilliant day of sunshine – too hot for some. Most of the club's members had assisted in making the event the success it was. It was therefore only right that the members should benefit from their efforts.

The club was happy to be able to support its members when racing or riding in other sportifs.

The club evening events had been popular, with the younger members riding regularly and, as the season progressed, their performances regularly improved.

The links that the club had forged with South Dartmoor School, Ashburton, had been beneficial, with a quartet going to the National Time Trial Championships in Hertfordshire
