IPPLEPEN Garden Club is looking forward to a second year of interesting talks, starting tomorrow, Wednesday January 25.
Its first meeting of 2017 will be with Peter Aves discussing ’those impossible Latin names’.
Peter said: ‘It’ll be a fun time exploring impossible words and a clear and simple explanation of why we use them. This will not be an academic evening!’
The village’s club opened its doors for the first time in March 2016.
During its first nine months there’s been a broad variety of speakers talking about a wide range of topics, including Agatha Christie’s poisonous plants; gourmet fruit and vegetables; dowsing; orchids; propagation; herbal remedies from the garden; new and unusual plants; the gardens at Greenway and Coleton Fishacre; and local limestone grassland sites.
All meetings include free refreshments, ’bring a bloom’ competition, and a raffle. Some meetings have a quiz too.
A spokesman for the club said: ‘Everyone is welcomed warmly by the committee and regular members.
‘The Club is growing rapidly and has a full programme for 2017.’
Meetings are held at Ipplepen Village Hall on the fourth Wednesday of every month, starting at 7.30pm.
