NEWTON Abbot’s Royal British Legion presented Mid-Devon Advertiser reporter John Balment with a tankard and certificate for all he has done for the club over the past 27 years.

Colleagues organised a surprise retirement bash for the horse racing fanatic last Friday (April 22), where branch chairman, Richard Underhill, gave John his gifts.

John’s last day at the Advertiser was on Wednesday (April 20).
