Kingsteignton Athletic Football Club – rumoured to close and suffering graffiti attacks on its clubhouse and stands – has set out its ambitions. A club statement said: 'The club is set up and ready for the forthcoming season, ambitious and building to bring back the glory to the village of Kingsteignton.' Club managers were so concerned by gossip that they visited Teign School, Kingsteignton. 'These rumours were mainly being spread around Teign School,' said a spokesman for the club. 'So we got in touch with the Head of Year 10, Miss Fawcett, and explained the situation. She made sure all Yr 10 classes knew that the club was open and staying open, and welcomed new members. 'We would like to thank Teign School for their support.' The club, founded in 1929, has appointed a new trainer, Gary Baker. He will be coaching the Under 16s and developing their skills in pre-season friendly matches and tournaments. The club is sponsored by Astra Building Supplies and Teign Vehicle Rentals. Last season the Under 15s toured Spain, where they played two Spanish under 15 clubs and visited Barcelona FC. The next Spanish tour, together with the senior sides this time, is next Easter.
